The season starts for me next week and I wanted to write a special blog and introduce the names of the kids on my golf bag. As you all know I'm a advocate for autism and I really love raising awareness for families who need a voice. This year I added the names to my golf bag of a few kids that I have had the chance to meet and let me tell you, they are some of the most amazing kids I have ever met. Elijah my nephew is doing really well in school and graduates this year and I will be there to watch him walk across the stage and receive his diploma! Myiesha, my niece is also doing well in school and I look forward to seeing her as well. Trey Brand is a very talented young man who is an outstanding bowler and I had the honor of meeting him last summer when the mayor honored him with his very own day! Jacqueline Lea Bradshaw is another great young person who I met last summer in Springfield,MO. Owen Dunagan is a bright young man who I had the opportunity to take to the driving range and chat with and I loved it! These kids are talented, beautiful and leaders! They along with the other 1 in 68 kids on the spectrum is why I do what I do. Golf has allowed me to create this huge forum to let folks know that autism just doesn't come and go in April. It's everyday and the parents do a tremendous job of raising their amazing kids. autism affects 1 in 68 kids, but we all know that the number is way bigger than that. Together we can make a difference. I'm honored to represent the autism community and look forward to making this season a special one. Trey, Elijah, Myiesha, Owen, Jacqueline, and the entire 1 in 68, I love you and will always fight hard for you. I look forward to seeing you all this summer!!
The year is beginning to pick up a bit. March is here and I'm ready to start my season after a pretty good off season, I feel like this season will be my best yet! I've worked really hard on my putting and changed my grip a tiny bit and so far it's made a huge difference. Last season my short game was ok but I left myself a ton of three putts and that's not acceptable. My iron play was pretty solid and this off season I worked on my core in the gym and I'm really understanding how much the body controls the swing. abs, glutes, & thighs are so important and you have to understand what you are doing in the gym to target those area's. No big equipment change other than my new Nike Vapor Fly driver which I really like and I'm putting a new ball in play, the Nike RZN Platinum which is amazingly soft but, you don't lose any distance. I'm as healthy as a 42 year old can be and I'm looking forward to coming out of the gates fast. 12 events is a lot for me but I feel like I've prepared myself for it so we will see how it goes.
My nonprofit organization TeamWinfrey had it's first fundraiser of 2016 and it was a great success! I want to thank everyone who attended and everyone who didn't make but donated to our cause. Thank you so much for all the support you have shown us and we are just getting started! We will be providing two scholarships to students on the autism spectrum and also helping out other families in need. We are also part of Amazon Smile, so if you shop on Amazon, please support us there.
Thank you for always coming to my website. I play golf for my autism, Homeless, and Underprivileged communities and I love it! Until next time take care and always try to make someone or something better.
