Well June is here and we are at the halfway point of the year and it's been pretty good for me. I have had a setback with my back, but I'm feeling good and hope to get back out and start practicing this weekend! I hurt my self playing in a event at Suncadia. I tried to play a shot out of the water and slipped and fell on my back and even though I finished the event, I felt horrible the next day and had to get checked out. With rest, treatment, and plenty of stretching, I hope to resume the consistency I found up to this point. My game was definitely trending upward. I'm hopeful that I will be able to play in my summer series events this month. The next time I'm in tournament action will be in July and that gives me plenty of time to work my way back into golf shape.
This month I will also be returning to the radio as my show The Elijah Winfrey Podcast will be back with a co host each month, as we talk about autism, homelessness, and low income families. Day and time will be announced soon.
My nonprofit organization ( TeamWinfrey) is doing well. Thank you all for the donations you have given us! We really need your help more than ever as we hope to deliver a scholarship to a wonderful individual later this year. I had the opportunity to meet Julie Eigsti and listen to her heart breaking story about her son Joel and as I sat there, I thought to myself, There has to be a way to stop the bullying in this world. Joel is a awesome young man on the autism spectrum who really wants to learn and be successful. I'm asking all of you to donate and help us deliver this scholarship to Joel. I'm hoping to have Joel and his family as my guest at my charity golf event in August. $5, $10, $100, or any amount is a start. This scholarship ensures that Joel gets the one on one teaching he needs and I want to make that happen.
This month I will be visiting The Miracle League of Vancouver to thank the wonderful families for presenting me with the wonderful plaque this spring. This spring we awarded 22 scholarships to kids with special needs and it was amazing. This is what giving back is all about! I love what I do and the smiles on their faces is priceless. I'm so excited to see them next week.
Finally I want to thank all of you for supporting what I do. You continue to inspire me and I feel that energy. I want to also shout out Tammy Wilson who I work with at Rachel Carson Elementary. Tammy is such an incredible woman and her work ethic is unbelievable. To all the teachers at Rachel Carson, keep up the great work! You all are my role models and your work does not go unnoticed. Let's all head into the second half of the year full of confidence and continue to make someone or something better!
